A work in progress. One of my favorite Master painters. William-Adolphe Bouguereau  I'm working on this in Painter 12. For the underpainting I blocked in shapes and some color. Then I decided to set my top layer to Colorize and filled it with black,for the reference photo as well. This helps me focus on the values. Color and detail will come later.

I'm using a grisaille (pronounced “griz-eye”) method. It is a French word meaning “gray tones.” The advantage of starting with a monochrome underpainting is it allows the painter to establish the forms and values first, and then develop the color on top of that.

So obviously A is my model for this project. I'm hoping to make enough changes that you won't really be able to tell it's him. The plan right now is to put him in a dark forest at night with some moonlight. He's found a glowing dragon egg. I'll put some kind of markings on the egg. He thinks he looks like a Jedi at the moment. lol. I could put a braid in his hair and say he's a Padawan.

This is just a practice nose. I have a new resolve to make paintings from my imagination, with reference photos as reference only. I want to get away from just copying a photo. I'll still do portraits for family and friends though.

I completely redid the eyebrows. They look much better in the close up. Blended the skin and shaped her nose some more. Added golden squiggles to her irises and added more color to her lips. Here is the beginning work  of her hair.

I'm a little frustrated with her eyebrows. At actual size they look great. But when I step back... not what I'm going for. There also seems to be some artifacts (pixels that shouldn't be there) when I step back too. * Seems to just be in Painter. I don't see the artifacts in the screenshot. :) Please click on the photo. I've still been working on his hair. I just can't get loose enough. It looks like he's dipped his head in Elmer's glue. I've never made popovers before. I don't have a popover pan. I'm sure this would look better had I a popover pan. Still this was very good. This has homemade strawberry jam (from my sister -in-law) and powdered sugar sprinkled on top.It was a pain to get out of the muffin tin even though I thoroughly greased the thing. Next time I'll try my silicon muffin pan.

This is very good! This pancake recipe is from the King Arthur Baker's Companion Cookbook. The fruit salad was made from some recipe Peter found somewhere. The secret ingredient for that is vanilla pudding. YUM!So I've decided to bake my way through the cookbook. I'll post only pictures of the foods that get a gold star from the family.

Here is the sketch and laying down of colors. I used the color picker to lay down the colors. Normally I just eye ball it and choose what I think it is. This thing is huge. 16.5" by 22" (well, huge for me. I don't think I've ever done anything that big.) I'm aiming for wall size. I was hoping for a shortcut=faster way by using the color picker. This is going pretty well. I'm really enjoying this one. When I'm done painting, I plan on taking this into Photoshop and messing with some saturation. Then adding a crackle effect to make it look like an old oil painting.

Sean is sick today so he and I stayed home from church.He's such a trooper when he's sick. He ate a little this morning then laid down on the couch and watched a VeggieTales. This is the salad plate to our new set of dinnerware. The plates are the same obviously bigger. The bowls have not yet arrived. Should be the end of the month when we receive them.Because it's been a long slow non creative kind of day.

I've been playing with tilt-shift photography. Making the photo look like a miniature model.A co-worker and friend of Peter's got to go to Paris recently. I managed to move the bookshelves and other furniture around. I'm hardly in any pain and it wasn't too bad yesterday. That means Spring is just around the corner! :)The hardest part was putting all the books back.The shelves are nice and organized. :) One isn't. It's got a wide range of subjects. Sonlight books to Political, Autobiographies to WWII. It annoys me but I can't do anything about
